Belts and Hoses
You may not spend a whole lot of time thinking about your car's belts and hoses; that is, until one of them breaks or bursts. Then, that's all you will think about, especially if you're left stranded on the side of the road. That's why it's so important to have your belts inspected regularly for nicks, cuts, shredding and other signs of age and wear.
Inspect hoses for bulges, soft spots, and loose clamps. If a belt or hose is too old or damaged, is should be replaced immediately. Some other symptoms that a belt of hose may need to be replaced would be squealing noise under the hood when you start drive the car, checked engine light is on, air conditioning not working, fluid leaking under the vehicle and overheating.
A system of belts and pulleys powers several parts in your vehicle. If your accessory drive belt breaks, you'll loose function of these crucial parts. Your alternator, which constantly re-charges your battery while driving, radiator cooling fan, water pump, which helps to cool your engine, air conditioning compressor, and power steering pump.
As they get older, hoses lose flexibility and become more susceptible to failure. If they burst while driving, you'll soon be on the side of the road. At A-1 Auto we inspect your hoses and belts at every oil change and advise on when the belts and hoses need to be replaced.
