The power door locks utilize individual solenoids in each of the doors that activate the door lock mechanism. The switch provides power to the door lock solenoids. To lock the doors the switch provides voltage to the two terminals of the solenoid. To unlock the doors the switch reverses the polarity of the voltage applied to the solenoid. An inoperative power door lock can be caused by the switch, solenoid, wiring problem or mechanical problem within the linkage of the affected door. The steering column is a long housing that contains the steering shaft, which connects the steering wheel to the steering gearbox or steering rack. The steering column is also where the steering wheel accessories are contained. Some symptoms of wear of failure would be excessive steering movement up and down or sideways, abnormal noise from inside the column when turning, Also other related items would be a vibration felt in the steering wheel is commonly caused by a problem in the front of the vehicle. A vibrations while driving is generally a tire balance issue. A vibrations while braking usually indicates a brake problem. Failed components inside the steering column can almost always be replaced without replacing the entire steering column assembly.
